Bear River Historical Society & Heritage Museum
The Society is a group of people who treasure the memories of the past and are devoted to saving as much of the heritage of the village for those here now, and those still to come. Read their newsletter, The Bear River Tributary, online.
Museum hours: July & August, 9:30 to 4:30 Monday through Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 or by appointment.
Bear River Volunteer Fire Department
The Bear River Volunteer Fire Department (BRFD) has twenty-nine (29) active firefighters, sixteen (16) associate members , and twelve (12) members of the Ladies Auxiliary. BRFD has one of the largest volunteer fire districts in Nova Scotia.
The BRFD responds to approximately eighty calls per year. These can include, but are not limited to, structure fires (homes and other buildings), motor vehicles (car fires and car accidents), grass fires, and medical first responses.

Oakdene Centre
Oakdene Centre, formerly Bear River’s local elementary school, was given to a volunteer group in 1995 to manage. The board rents out classrooms in this beautiful building to small businesses, artists, craftspeople, as well as community, education, music and recreation groups. The Rebekah houses Sissiboo Coffee Roaster and the The Bare Canvas Art Gallery. Upstairs the REBEKAH MUSIC HALL hosts monthly music events, some in collaboration with the Bear Rhythm Music Society.
The REBEKAH MUSIC HALL can be rented for private functions, fundraisers, receptions, etc.
