Come share your ideas and needs for public transportation between the areas of Barton to Bear River Digby Co. , Town of Digby, and Town of Digby and Digby Neck including the Islands.

Car pooling is encouraged; however a free drive from Town of Digby, Weymouth onwards, Bear River West or Freeport onwards is available by calling for a reservation from 8am -5pm: Larry 467- 0553; Marguerite 245-4847; Carol 839-2733 or Dispatch 769-2477.

24 hour notice is required.

Dr. Clarke Fraser inducted to the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame

Artist Ken Flett at the Oakdene Centre

Bear River is home to a number of artists.  Photographer, sculptor and painter Ken Flett was recently featured in an article by Heather Killen.

Stealing cookies
His studio at the Oakdene Centre in Bear River feels like a space in transition, with some pictures neatly lined-up on the wall and other items loose and scattered on the floor. Flett studied at the College of Art in Calgary and early on was influenced was influenced by the work of Diane Arbus, an American photographer remembered for her startling black and white portraits of rare and unusual people. Bear River – #5 on the Cultureville list!

Bear River was chosen as one of CBC’s top ten cultural centres in the Maritimes! Chief Greg McEwen of Beartown Baskets and Simone Wilson organizer of Fall for Bear River were interviewed and appeared on CBC’s ‘Maritime Cultureville’.
