Rob Buckland-Nicks

Rob studied sculpture and painting at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, England. He emigrated to Bear River in the 1970s. On Nova Scotia’s coastline, he developed an interest in combining birds and stones, either by describing the profile of a small stone with the profile of a bird, or interpreting a suggested landscape in the surface of a larger stone with birds in motion.
As many as thirty semi-transparent layers of acrylic paint are used to give these birds a sense of release from the stone. When the birds leave, only the landscape remains.
Rob’s studio is upstairs at his store, The Flight of Fancy. Open daily 9am – 6pm, May 1st to October 31st, 1869 Clementsvale Road, beside the bridge.
