Headquartered in Bear River, NS, Sledding Hill produces high quality and uncommon foods, ranging from fresh local produce to unusual jellies and condiments. Founded in 2009 by Gordon Tingley and Martin McGurk, Sledding Hill introduced their first products at the Bear River Farmers’ and Artists’ Market in August 2010. Since then, they have rapidly gained the attention of local food enthusiasts with their flagship lavender-flavoured product line.
By April 1, 2011, Sledding Hill plans to have four products approved by the Nova Scotia Provincial Government and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for wholesale to 3rd party retailers. These will include the Lavender Simple Syrup, Lavender Jelly, Lavender Baking Sugar, and Lavender Pepper. Additional products will be available to retailers later in the year.

Taste of Nova Scotia is a unique, province-wide, marketing program, whose members are committed to offering the very best culinary experience Nova Scotia has to offer. Members are required to maintain high quality standards and source Nova Scotian ingredients whenever feasible.
“It’s been exactly six months to the day since we offered our first culinary lavender product for sale at the Bear River Market,” says co-owner Martin McGurk. “Enthusiasm for our products has been incredible. We’re so grateful for the support that our community and the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture have given us.”
